Well known hacker group Anonymous has claimed to have stolen more than 90,000 emails and passwords from military contract Booz Allen Hamiltion, in an a cyber-attack they are calling ‘Military Meltdown Monday.’
“We infiltrated a server on their network that basically had no security measures in place,” said Anonymous. The group then posted the information online, and also wiped out four gigabytes of source code.
The hacker group reportedly also used the credentials it obtained from Booz Allen Hamilton’s system to steal data from various other servers, and claims it now has information helpful for invading additional government agencies and related contractors.
The management and technology consulting services company confirmed in a press release that “the posting of certain data files on the Internet yesterday was the result of an illegal attack,” and are reportedly conducting a full review of the incident.
Critics suggest that Booz Allen failed to protect its servers by using algorithms that could be easily cracked, and leaving its databases open to opportunities for inserting malicious code.
