The tables have been turned on hacker group Anonymous, as their own social network was hacked Wednesday. In this instance, the attackers defaced the page and poked fun at Anonymous’ logos and slogans.
The group’s social network, AnonPlus, was reportedly created after the “Your Anon News” was rejected by Google+ for not complying with the site’s User and Content Conduct Policy. The group also lost access to their Gmail and other Google accounts.
Anonymous announced the new social network in a blog, saying “Not only did a few people organize an Operation [against] Google+, but we have started to build our own Social Network…. Welcome to AnonPlus.”
The incident comes on the heels of the arrest of 16 alleged Anonymous members in the United States, and additional arrests by the Metropolitan Police Service in the UK and the Dutch National Police Agency.
“You seriously think hacking one little site will stop a movement for free speech?” responded one Anonymous member.
